“Unlimited” means on your phone
No daily cap and no speed cap. The network’s Fair Usage Policy looks at your last 3 days; if use is judged excessive, speed may drop to about 1 Mbps for a while. The exact threshold isn’t published.

Japan eSIM · Unlimited 5G
No daily cap and no speed cap on your phone, on KDDI (au). The Fair Usage Policy and a hotspot total apply — both shown right here.
What’s included
Network, speed, hotspot and dates — the same terms you’ll see before you pay.
GBDays
Hotspot total = days − 1 GB. Beyond it, only hotspot slows to 128 kbps.
The fine print, upfront
“Unlimited”, “5G” and “hotspot” each come with a limit. Here they are, right next to the promise.

Days − 1 GB: 2 GB on 3 days, 9 GB on 10 days, 25 GB on 26 days, 30 GB on 31 days. Beyond it, hotspot runs at 128 kbps.
5G works where your phone, its bands, the location and the network allow it. Elsewhere you’ll connect on KDDI’s 4G LTE. Speed and coverage vary with place, time of day and congestion.
No phone number, calls, SMS or emergency calls. Keep your home SIM for calls and texts, and use WhatsApp, iMessage or FaceTime over data.
Will my phone work?
Please check all four before you buy. Once your QR code is shown, the eSIM can’t be refunded.
Made for smartphones and tablets; routers and other devices aren’t guaranteed. Phones with the same name can differ by region, so check your exact model number.
Look for “eSIM” in your phone’s specifications.
On iPhone, Settings › General › About › Carrier Lock should say “No SIM restrictions”. Otherwise, ask your carrier.
The KDDI bands this line needs. Band 1 alone isn’t enough.
Your phone must be permitted for use in Japan.

FAQ
On your phone, yes: no daily cap and no speed cap. Like every plan, it follows the network’s Fair Usage Policy, which looks at your use over the last 3 days. If use is judged excessive, speed may be limited to about 1 Mbps for a while. The exact threshold isn’t published. Hotspot has its own total (days − 1 GB); beyond it, hotspot runs at 128 kbps.
Yes, on every plan. Unlimited 5G and Unlimited 10 Mbps include a hotspot total of days − 1 GB (2 GB on 3 days, up to 30 GB on 31 days); beyond it, hotspot runs at 128 kbps. A Data Package shares one total between phone and hotspot. Some Android phones need one extra APN setting for hotspot, and our setup guide shows how.
Your phone must support eSIM, be carrier-unlocked, support LTE Band 18 or Band 26 (Band 1 alone isn’t enough), and be allowed for use in Japan. The eSIM is made for smartphones and tablets; routers and other devices aren’t guaranteed. Phones with the same name can differ by region, so check your exact model number.
Check that the eSIM line is on and selected for mobile data. On Android, if the APN isn’t set automatically, choose “5G NET” (not “5G NET for DATA”) or enter it as shown in our setup guide. On iPhone, go to Settings › General › VPN & Device Management and remove any profile left by another carrier, but not the eSIM itself. If it still won’t connect, contact us without deleting the eSIM.
Plans can’t be topped up or extended, so please choose enough days. Until you show your QR code or activation code on My Page, you can cancel for a full refund, even after our email has arrived. After that, refunds aren’t available. If the eSIM then won’t work in Japan, contact us and we’ll check and send a replacement eSIM. Replacements don’t cover phones that don’t meet the requirements, connection settings such as the APN that weren’t applied, or a deleted eSIM.
